Citrus Growers’ Association

NPO | Data Analytics and Dashboard Visualisation |

The Citrus Growers’ Association of South Africa, a non-profit organization, approached CloudZA to migrate their SQL database and BI reporting to the cloud. Their initial migration reasons were due to a lack of redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities, as their SQL database was running from a local machine. The solution also needed to be a managed service as they do not have any IT support to handle database administration.

CloudZA conducted a database migration for the Citrus Growers’ Association, with Professional services relating to the creation of a Well-Architected Landing Zone, Amazon S3 Data lake implementation and Security hardening of their AWS account.

As they are an NPO (Non-Profit Organisation), they required a cost-effective solution that would meet their requirements. CloudZA architected a solution utilizing Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service) and Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) for backup storage. The customer saw speed improvements for their PowerBI reports, and after monitoring their monthly utilization, we were able to rightsize the database to save further costs.

In addition, automated backups were configured, ensuring that no data would be lost in the event of a disaster. The next step will be to implement a serverless data lake solution, using S3 and QuickSight, allowing them to scale to thousands of users.
